Joshua Kissi: The heavy amount of rainfall is the one constant we can expect each spring. Encountering a random shower as you maneuver your way through the city isn’t uncommon this time of year. Such elements may stress the need for a investment in a raincoat, whether affordable or costly. Unlike most other outerwear, the raincoat is less about retaining warmth and more about keeping the wearer dry from the damp conditions.
The earliest rain-resistant gear was difficult to move in. Years of trial and error have corrected this mobility issue while giving the consumer a plethora of different fabrics, materials and styles to choose from.
I found this particular jacket to be striking in color. The simplistic design and great detail added to the appeal.

Experienced a bit with taking product shots of selected items in my room, that’s before causing a total mess of it.
Jacket – The fiery burst of (nearly neon) yellow is the first detail that caught my attention. Such a vivid color almost necessitates you to tone down the rest of your outfit, unless you’re really brave with color palettes.
The jacket has a detachable hood with button and zip closures, which provide a few options on how to wear it: One button closed; two button, or all the way zipped up to serve its purpose of keeping you dry when it actually rains. I was able to grab this for $125, which was half of its retail price.
Pants – These navy cargos are actually the first pair I purchased from the U.S surplus store and had tailored after. The revised pants provided a perfect fit; not too slim but also not too spacious.
We receive numerous emails asking for advice on tailoring cargos. What I advise is to have your tailor take in the seams from the inner legs due to the pockets/darts on the outside.
Some of you may be wondering where in the world did all of this sunlight visible in the following photos came from. Thanks to Mother Nature and it being the spring season, the skies cleared up and the sun started to break through the clouds. Once we arrived in Brooklyn, we decided we couldn’t let the good weather go to waste and decided to add the nautical stripe shirt to the post as a transitional piece.
History : ”The popularity of Nautical style came about almost two centuries ago in France, when the Prince of Wales (Albert Edwards) donned the stripes along with a sailor collar in Franz Xaver Winterhalter’s1847 oil painting. The look, which was inspired by the uniform of the sailors on the Royal yacht, made its way to the Royal Navy in 1857.”
Shirt – We’re all aware that the term ‘classic’ is redundant, but the nautical / stripe shirt fits this term. I purchased this piece a little over a year ago from Uniqlo ($19.50) mainly so I could have this great pattern in my wardrobe. I’m unsure if they’re producing it again this spring/summer season. If you’re looking for a similar pattern shirt characterized by better craftsmanship at a higher cost, I would suggest check French brand Saint James.
Shoes – You can’t go in the wrong direction by having a pair of nice white canvas sneakers for the warmer months. Whether dressed up with trousers or paired with jeans, it balances any spring or summer outfit.

Ah ye old nautical stripe. One of my favorite articles in all of menswear. Great post. One of your more notable outfits. Loving the raincoat. I should really invest in one.

Love the nautical sweater – Land’s End Canvas has a Navy one with white stripes that I picked up a few weeks ago and love. They include some buttons along one shoulder which is a nice detail. And they’re almost always on sale!

Great write-up and photographic depiction Jkissi. For the purposes of conservative business, i utilize a more muted raincoat, however, this is a great item for weekend wear and i’ll definitely consider it. that is one pretty amazing piece of outerwear. a waterproof jacket is high on my list at the moment as the weather is really weird in the uk at the moment. crazy hot for the time of year mix with thundershowers. we’re used to grey drizzle.

You’re totally right about the inseam with the cargo pant tailoring Josh. When I took my cargos to my tailor that’s the first thing she told me about getting it done because she didn’t want to misplace the pockets.
