JKISSI : When thinking of where to begin my leather jacket journey purchase the company Schott NYC came to mind instantly. People may label leather jackets as something trendy or popular, but the truth of the matter is they can never go out of style. The leather jacket is a American classic varying in different styles, colors and lengths. My earliest memory of my first leather jacket was a biker jacket from Vanson leathers which obviously became out of fit within years. Once again I faced the dilemma of purchasing another jacket even with all the information learned it was still a hesitant process. With a new breed of  quality leather jackets being made it can become expensive, but this life time purchase can be worth it in terms of longevity. Similar to a pair of raw denim jeans you would purchase this piece can last for a very long time.  I chose to go with a leather bomber with it’s thick knit wrist and neck bands to keep the body warm during the colder months.  It seems nothing is better than to have a full lineup when it comes outerwear during the fall and winter seasons.

Schott NYC (Schott Bros.) the first company to place zippers on jackets started back  in 1913 by two brothers Irving and Jack Schott in New York City.  The two brothers sought out to produce quality driven products with a function more than appealing to fashion and style world. The company produced garments for the US Military during World War II and continues to produce the classic naval pea coat for the US Navy.  Schott NYC is considered a American classic manufactured right here in the United States, it’s great to see a company withstand many years and still stay true to it’s roots.

Fit Description : – : The Schott bomber was the perfect choice even in the midst of many jackets to choose from, I wanted to stray away from my usual  love for biker style jackets. The details on the jacket were vital to my decision the triple thick collar, multiple zippers on the front and hand warmer insulated pockets were perfect. When it comes to leathers it seems people are more comfortable to pick black, of course going with anything you pair it with. The brown also gives off a classic bomber feeling which I really thought would work well with what I had in mind. New Cures have just experienced their first treatment at the dry cleaners, faded beautifully. Classic Ralph Lauren ranger boots more known as ‘Cookies’ in gray a collaboration with Ronnie Fieg of David Z and Ralph Lauren. I recently wrote a short article on our Hypebeast blog about the Lo-Lifes in correlation with Ralph Lauren.  I know you guys are still awaiting that much anticipated Boot post we’re still working hard on that post.

Biker jackets are probably my favorite style of the leather jacket. Here are a few pictures which I think personify the jacket style.

Great post! I’ve been on the hunt to invest in a good leather jacket this year. This may hep a little. I love how you’ve started to infuse fashion history into your posts now, it’s what keeps me coming back.

    Keep up the good work!

Leather jacket are classic pieces. It is just certain styles that go in and out of popularity. Right now it’s the motorcycle jacket aka “the Perfecto.” I believe it was Schott’s that actually coined “The Perfecto” name, which Balenciaga calls their version too.
I like that you chose a bomber style, love a bomber jacket. As always your color coordination is always on point, even your choice of background is on point too. The boots are especially awesome.
ALso your Moto gang pics are pretty awesome too.

Mat : I highly recommend looking into it man can define a outfit all depending on the jacket style you choose and such, tjhanks man try to give a little background or text on things than just posting a picture of ourselves alone and say “look what I wore” lol that’s what forums are for mainly I would say.

Milly : Yeah its a great jacket it’s actually a medium for anyone wondering , 6′1 162 lbs to give people a better idea on the fits of the jacket.

Another well thought out post. The jacket is official (granted a little different than I expected, but dope nonetheless)…not everyone can pull off hats like that. The polo boots add a nice street flare to what is otherwise a pretty traditional-style outfit. Fingerless gloves are a nice touch. You know what it is my dude, will be hitting you up soon.

Pret-a-porter P : You’re absolutelyright on that about certain styles going out of style, I think the biker jacket has been in the light for some time now. Like who didn’t want the Marlon Brando, James dean type of bad boy look even today. Yup Schott did coin the name “The Perfecto” one of their most popular jackets. Yeah like I said above I love biker style jackets but opted out on purchasing it this time around, maybe the next time, thank you pret-a-porter for always commenting we’re thankful for that.

D-Why : Yeah man I know when I told before you were probably thinking of something black and more traditional but went with something different to see how I would throw this one together. You got it ! the cookies do actually add that element like you said without it would seem like a traditional outfit. Yea man you know where I am from day to day.

    Thanks D

Another great post JKISSI! I am currently on the hunt for a new leather jacket after tearing my last one on a night out and I am looking at it as a chance to pick up an investment piece. Its funny that the styles you posted are the bomber and the motorcycle jacket as I can’t decide between the two.

Also like the outfit in your photo – really strong look.

Word up, the zippers, zipper color, the richness of the brown leather, overall fit, and the collar make that jacket crazy.

It’s a little cliche but I’m probably gonna get a perfecto too since I just realized I lack really solid black outerwear. Definitely going the ToJ route especially since Drew really spit that leather knowledge on SF. 5lb MTM calf leather jacket that should last years and years. :)

Peep Yannickl’s ToJ perfecto, it’s damn perfect:

Wow, you look warm! I wasn’t even sure if you washed your jeans or it was photoshop or something but I think they fade better when you dry-clean. I normally see people wash them in a washing machine. As for the jacket, I think you were spot on with your decision. Most people opt for the traditional style of jacket and as you said, in black. This is a very unique jacket. Those boots look proper also.

That photo of you is one for my style archives :) Best of Luck to you Josh.

quality post. By now I have come to expect nothing less. The cut and fit of the leather jacket is nice but right now I’m more into the vintage styles so the pics towards the end of the classic bikers jackets hit closer to the heart for me. I just got my second biker’s leather and I’m seriously debating whether I should wear it tonight. I chopped the sleeves off of my first one, real bike gang style; hahaaa!

I am in love with your bomber! I have been thinking about getting myself a leather jacket, but I am afraid I would look extremely weird considering I am 16. Normally older people wear leather jackets and they rock them, but if I wore one I don’t know if I would look like a little kid trying dress older than he is. Another big fear is that looking at your bomber and how it fits you, which it fits your perfectly. I am especially afraid that my leather jacket may be way too big on me. I love your bomber so much! I just have to say, that I am literally obsessed with this blog! Literally. I literally keep your blog as a tab on my internet constantly! You are what mainly inspire my ensembles lately. It’s finally good to have a blog I can rely on to have really cool ensembles I can draw my inspiration from! I have heard from a lot of people and blogs and such that a hat is a really understated item of clothing and that not many people are brave enough to sport one. Well, you are sporting one which looks really good on you, but for example, me, I could never pull of a hat like yours. Believe me…I’ve tried. Some people such as myself cannot really rock hats. Although, I am constantly in search for one I could rock. I have to say that I love ALL the shoes that you and your friend wear in your posts! You never fail to find and wear the most amazing shoes ever! O.k. I might as well just add some pictures to this comment and make it a post because it’s lengthy!

Nice blog. Just discovered it via Put This On and have gone about 5 pages deep into the archives. It’s nice to see a couple of young guys with some real style. Out in Southern California where I live, most guys your age just have either the surfer/slob look or the douchebag Spencer-from-the-Hills look.

I really dig the jacket, even if it isn’t the Perfecto model. The zippers and the collar make it. FYI, not all Schott products are made in the US. They have to make a few items outside. However their website has a section that lists all their Made in the USA items. Nice stuff if a bit pricey, but it’s the kind of stuff that will last with the proper care.

Also love the hat. Showed my wife your picture and said “what do you think about that hat?” since I have been on the hunt for a non-flappy golf hat, and she loved it. She loved your whole look, so you’ve got our approval.

Craig : Thank you Craig this post is perfect for you then like I said above we all know purchasing a new leather can be a expensive investment especially when you’re unsure on a lot of things applying to the style/color/brand etc. I have you covered with the brand Schott NYC is the perfect choice to scour their site and break down the choices. I hear you man it all depends which do you really want to have for a very long time and make a decision biker or bomber style either way you cant go wrong in my eyes.

Maria : Thanks much! , yeah I would guess Schott Schuman capturing some great shots of people in leather jackets . Lol more are coming for sure :D lol

Willycheesesteak : Totally forgot about my brother Drew at TOJ , thanks Will, guys he produces made to measure leather jackets for great prices if you are interested in customizing your own jacket and have many options to add on your jacket. Let’s be honest though lol most people need a perfecto in their closet somewhere its a great classic jacket.

Neal : Yeah the post took some time to really get on point what I wanted to get across in the post without sounding too much like a guide pushing people to buy, wanted to come off as just a great recommendation for anyone like me before looking for a great leather jacket. Thanks man polo boots are great.

Reggie : Hey Reggie, yeah I dry cleaned them once and they came out very impressive for the alright wear I put into them , I wish I was more dedicated into wearing them a lot like I was with my last pair, but as time goes on they will fade just will take a much longer time. Thanks man you been with us from the starting we are thankful for that man, it’s the readers who make us. Lol very much warm man!

Najee D : Lol thanks always check out your blog from time to time should update it more ;d

Soho B : Great look man , when we were at the Madbury shoot I peeped you had cut the sleeves off the leather really bringing in that biker gang feeling. It looked great man a lot of people with leathers are scared to experiment on it , I would have one regular and one chopped off it brings in these sick layering options you could play with with flannels and other print.

    The Cash : Thanks man

    Forgentlemen
: Apologies just added the link to the post originally, the hat is from Topman thought it would definitely bring in a different element to the outfit as far as leather jacket and such. Lol secrets :S

Royal RJ : Thanks my brother appreciate it !

Phillip : You just hit it right on the head my brother that’s what we seem to do without even really trying too hard to go that way, I think we just really grown accustomed to it, great blog you have see you guys are very dapper keep up the good work on that side.

Anonymous : Thanks I know I was trying to find the perfect picture of James Dean, but I couldnt find anything I really liked and not just throw up here I’m sure people know him and Mr.Brando are def the starters and influence behind the whole biker style lol. Thanks man appreciate the good words

Thanks for keeping our blog on the tabs even though we update weekly which should turn into bi-weekly but it’s all a work in progress I should say. Took a look at your blog looks cool like the fact you keep it up to par with that is going on the runway while still incorporating your style with some nice photography.

David : Great! the guys at ‘Put This On’ are great from the first time I discovered their site I knew it was something about the site that would be very promising. Some people may agree but we need sites like that to just read. It doesn’t matter if you are advanced in your info on menswear everyday something can be learned , if you let it tune in of course.

Thanks , yup like I said above the perfecto model is exactly what it says “perfect” especially the history behind it further pushes the need to buy it not even considering design or anything. I’ll go out on a limb and throw it out there and say some people are just not able to pull off the biker jacket. I just feel like if you know what compliments you as far as different jacket styles you should be perfectly fine.

Thanks to your wife I appreciate her cosign , great hat to go with hyperlinked it in my original post.

Juge : much appreciated love from HB my brothers over there always supporting SE. I would say depending on price tag RW”s are probably going for a bit more than the polo boots both are visually appealing depending on who you talk to, personally my feet never look good in Red Wing boots for some odd reason so I often pass on it. That story could be different for you though both are great pair of boots. Don’t forget to size down on polo’s if you do.

illtek : You’re definitely on the right path my friend like Kenji mentioned some great bodies of writing to read, I would suggest just clicking through the links we have in our blogroll/family section just to see various styles and just a whole new world of things.

I agree with Pret a Porter P that your color combos are on point…I always struggle with not being too “matchy matchy” and I find that your outfits always incorporate a great color palette that not only blends well, but emphasizes other aspects of the outfit. I love how the buffalo plaid shirt, scarf and jacket all accent each other quite beautifully, and the boots are just plain sick. Cheers on a great blog…It’s now among my favorites.

I just purchased a Schott TYPE A-2 Bomber (Vintage Red) and was really surprised by the quality. I still prefer Vanson (I own 5 vanson leathers and 1 vanson Textile) but Schott’s quality isnt bad at all.

that leather jacket is very dope but my dilemma is getting the brown jacket and not having a lot of things to wear with it, mainly shoes. so i guess my question is what would someone wear with this jacket if they purchased it? i realize that this isn’t a jacket that you wear daily lol.
