Opening The Ceremony.

Trav: It has been many forever since we were suppose to have the Street Etiquette’s Shopping list up,  it seems impossible to focus on it at the moment and have it done with the level of perfection that we were seeking. So when will it be finished? Only God knows at this moment.  What we will do for now is frequently give store/ boutique reviews and eventually it will compile into the list, this will be the first of such posts.

break Opening Ceremony seems to be really making an impact for 09. They finally launched their online store a few months ago which is pretty dope. They currently have two retail locations, one in NY and a second in LA. Opening Ceremony got its name and influence from the original Olympics. Initially, Opening Ceremony took the concept of merging countries, just like the Olympics, but through fashion by representing a  different country each year. I remember reading something on NYmag about the two owners of Opening Ceremony, going to a country, staying awhile, and before they leave, buying 2seasons worth of clothing from 10 designers inorder to sell. Today, OC stock a lot of exclusive stuff including the Raf Simmons X Fred Perry Tonal loafers that I need want oooh so badly. My only beef with Opening Ceremony is that they are too expensive. Their self branded desert boots are the hottest desert boots out right now, but for$360, it leaves me out of that target market. They also tend to sell items above the actual retail price. What i can afford however, is the collaboration they did with Uniqlo. The shirts they did for the Uniqlo Designers Invitation Project are nothing short of fresh. I just had to pickup one (pic shown below)on sale a couple days ago. But go check out their store at 35 Howard St. Don’t expect to find much stuff under $200 though .

Yeah, definitely let me know how they fit, because I can’t make it down to NY but will think about getting them online. They look awesome but someone told me today that the quality of the leather doesn’t look that good…hard to believe, really. Will check back in! Cheers…

On the desert boots: I bought one pair online last Christmas, ox blood patent (shown here: http://www.highsnobiety.com/uploads/pics/opening-ceremony-fall-2008-shoes-2.png), amazing shape, quite tight at first but they stretch a bit. I usually wear “10″ (for Nike sneakers as instance) and I took a 43 with Opening Ceremony.

As for the quality, it’s premium napa leather and Italian made, I don’t think you have to worry. The layer is quite thin but the shoe is really well-made. The sole is good too, though leather sole are always a bit fragile.

You’ve got interesting sales on tresbienshop right now: http://www.tresbienshop.net/en/grp/openingceremony-men.php?new_currency=1

Guys, as Voltaire said “Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien” (“The perfect is the enemy of the good”).
