Journey Of The Tailor: G & G Cleaners General Style 15 Comments

Trav: Roughly 7months ago when i first purchased my A.P.C. Petit Standards they fitted superbly. However, that fit quickly turned around as wear caused significant stretching. To make a long story short, I did not size down enough. These jeans stretched out way more than i expected and after a few months i found myself completely abandoning them. I decided to head on over to the A.P.C. store to see what they can do. For those who don’t know, A.P.C. does assist their customers with alterations. I told the guy that i needed my jeans tailored and he explained to me the procedure. Right before i was about to hand him my jeans he asked me i  would like the address to the tailor they use in order to save us both some time. I said yes, and he handed me the card of G & G Cleaners located on 46 Grand Street. So off i went, quickly finding the spot. The place is owned and ran by Asians who know their stuff. There was about about  2 people in the back working  the machines, and another person measuring a lady for her wedding dress. The lady behind the counter  recommended that i take it in to a half an inch. She definitely knew what she was talking about, because 5days later and $20 broker, i got the jeans and they are now exactly how i wanted them. The thighs are now perfectly tapered to my desired liking and the leg opening is now tight enough to give a much better look when rested on my shoes. The selvage lining is now wider and looks a bit cooler in my opinion. The only thing that i did not like is that these people lack the connection of a personal tailor. It was more of a take your stuff and go kind of thing. It was however, an overall pleasant experience. Pics and rating below:

I’m digging the rating thing you got going on up there. Great Idea. Really like the fit. I had a cleaners/tailor that I went to up until I found spots on my shirts. Had to ditch them, haven’t found anyone to replace them with yet.

To be perfectly honest I could never go to places like the cleaners above. Lack of communication is a big thing for me. You want to take my clothes and charge me money for service, but your not communicating with me on a customer to occupation kind of level. Nope. I’ll go to a different tailor who are more friendly and make you feel welcomed rather than people like this. They perform their job and quality is perfect thats cool, but at the end of the day I want to feel welcomed when I come in. / END RANT lol

Wow. Communication aside the fit is GREAT.
I didn’t size down enough on my new standards
so I was just going to buy a new pair.(Barneys actually
called me this morning to let me kno they got a new shipment
of APC’s) But after reading this I’ll just save the money I
don’t have anyway and just go look for a good tailor. Groovy post.

I’ve been having a problem with the fit of my standards as well. I’ve had them for 9 months now but they don’t fit me as well as they did when I first got them. I never really thought of getting them tailored but after reading this I’ll be sure to go to my local tailor/cleaner to see if they could assist me.

p.s I think the fishing look on yours look great. sucks that the service wasn’t as satisfactory.

Wow, I never knew so much people are not happy with their fits on APC when buying them you should not really think about the comfort level at that point because of the stretching that will occur. Sometimes that streching will bring you to a good even likable fit if you follow through right. Tailors will definitely be beneficial to fixing your jeans majority of the time , but one thing just make sure you can communicate with them to tell them exactly how you want the jeans to fit and how much to take in, or you could end up like me lol with my old APC NC.

not even gonna lie, the jacket and boat shoe combination is just crazy . . .
the only thing i would that would improve an already “perfect” fit was maybe if the trench was a little longer . . .
oh and the denim looks serious to . . .

    Hey Joseph ,

Trav is wearing a Uniqlo Trench Coat from the fall season , I’m unsure if you could still find that same exact one , but Topman.com has ones similar .
